Marvel Universe Live: A Must-See Show For All Superheroes

20170728_195746

My son has been a fan of Marvel since his first love at age 2: Spiderman. That was the first costume which he wore everywhere. I have since proudly watched him expand his fan kid portfolio and fill his costume closet with the likes of other heroes like Captain America, Iron Man, Ant Man and he will soon ‘unlock’ his buddy, Guardians of the Galaxy’s Star Lord and his most recent request has been for a Deadpool costume (***NOTE: I have seen the movie for Deadpool & it is NOT kid-friendly! JJ has already been informed that he is not to see that movie until he’s 18.) 20170728_195746He has also recently was introduced to Lego Marvel Superheroes, a type of role playing game that you can even play with 2 players. You go on missions to defeat villain bosses and unlock heroes and villains alike along the way. You are able to play as your favorite characters using all their unique skills to save citizens, earn cash and fun stuff like drive cars or pilot sky vehicles, solve puzzles, dance a funny dance while waiting to move and of course, saving Marvel creator, Stan Lee from his vast array of peril scenarios. You can even customize your favorites so Spidey can be equipped with a Capt. America shield or a mash up of Sabretooth with Iron Man’s mask. This game is hours and hours of fun and like when my son was obsessed with superhero coloring books, he learned the names and logos and attacks of his favorite superheroes and defenses of their nemeses. I knew Marvel Universe Live would be a great way to watch superheroes 20170728_190817come to life!

I bought tickets just a few days before through the direct website for the venue hosting: UNLV Tickets. In Las Vegas, with so many options for performances, sports and activities, it is hard to choose which to attend! I have to say I highly recommend this show to anyone with kids remotely interested in superheroes. There are several stories that lead up to the main event each featuring your favorite teams of Marvel heroes, namely The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. It is really hard to not find so much entertainment for kids of all ages with high flying aerialists, dirt bike demonstrations, fire dancers (think Polynesian poi ball spinners!), acrobatics, of course, the awesome superheroes in  their awesome uniforms! My soon to be Kindergarten aged kiddo recognized everyone he saw and was so excited watching them battle it out with those dastardly villains!20170728_201230

Doors open 1 hour before and knowing there would be lots of people parking, we arrived before the allotted time. As we made our way in, we were immediately greeted with all things Marvel! Cups, toys, posters, masks, you name it. We made our way past several tables on the way to our seats and decided on a cool noise-making blaster gun with the Marvel Universe Live logo and a sketch of a handful of Avengers on it. I thought about the money, knowing a lot can be inflated at events, but also, a lot of the items are exclusively available only at a show.

20170728_192212We didn’t know we got such great seats until we arrived. We asked the Events Staff to show us where our seats are and the kind man remarked, “Those are the best seats in the house! Enjoy!” Sure enough, we found out as we made our way down the stairs that we were seated in the front row! I couldn’t believe our luck! Sure, I bought the tickets for us, but in seeing the seating chart, I thought there would be several rows ahead of us all the way to the ground. For this specific show, the collapsible bleacher seats were pushed all the way back so that meant, front row for us! There were a lot of kids dressed up or wearing their favorite heroes garb and though I packed my son’s Ant Man costume, mask and gloves, he opted out since it was really hot out still. Even if you didn’t have or bring a costume, lots of people had fan shirts on or bought masks or shirts there. While we were seated, we bought cotton candy with a mask that J was able to pick out. He chose Spiderman – of course! FYI, cotton candy now costs $15/bag. O.M.G.

20170728_203738The show began promptly on time having generously provided a countdown of several minute intervals. The opening introduction showed Doctor Strange levitating toward the audience… Great visual effects with wiring and cables as well as just the right amount of pyrotechnics throughout the show made for a seamless transfer into the Marvel Universe… Actually, the presence of Doctor Strange made me curious and we were inspired to watch the movie later that night!

Without giving away the plot and outcome of the show, I have to say, it was a great performance that could be enjoyed by everyone in the family. With voice over technology you need not strain to hear or understand the characters. There were a lot of characteristic lines and mannerisms so you really got to see your favorite heroes in real life. The whole back drop is a massive changing screen that made the stage look even bigger and really set the scenes with ease. There is a brief intermission in between acts and the seat vendors make their way around again selling popcorn, cotton candy, lemonade, souvenirs, you name it! We managed to use the restrooms before hand with zero line, but maybe at intermission it was a different story. Even the lines to buy things were not very long given that there were tables and carts available every few steps. For parents and those over age 21, there was alcohol being served! I saw mostly beer stands, but I imagine they may have had wine options also. We were given a countdown to showtime once again and the next chapter began…

At the end, as they take their final vows, you are able to see so many characters lined up, facing the crowd, undoubtedly for photo opportunities. It was a really fun night and I hope you all get to take your superheroes in training to see this great show! Even exiting, traffic wasn’t bad at all. Tickets are reduced for children, full price for adults. This is a show experience your kids will talk about for months! I can’t believe my little managed to be engaged and seated for the whole show. The only 2 times he got a little antsy was waiting for the show to begin and for intermission to conclude!

Found a Diamond in the Desert!!!

We recently had the pleasure of dealing with Blue Diamond Air Solutions when we realized our HVAC air filters were in need of replacement.

From the moment they arrived they were very kind and professional.  They worked quickly to pull the old, dirty filters out, clean the cover, degrease the air intake vent and finally place the new filters.  I was surprised at how instant and noticeable the increased airflow through each vent was.  They also explained the many benefits of keeping a clean filter, including much cleaner air to breathe and reduction in energy costs due to higher efficiency of the increased airflow.  Being the mother of a child with allergies, the cleaner air is a HUGE benefit and a relief to me.  Our son even got a kick out of the installation, saying it looked like we had a ghostbuster in our house!

"Who you gonna call?"

“Who you gonna call?”

They recommend changing the filters quarterly or if there are pets in the home, bi-monthly.  The overall cost for us would only be $30 each time! ($5 per filter and a $20 service fee).  BDAS has been in business for a little over six months but they were very knowledgeable and were able to answer any questions I had for them.  I would highly recommend them to anyone I know. Once Again variety of Gourmet Nut Butters Review

IMG_7339“Once Again We Spread Integrity “ is a pretty interesting slogan.

I have to say I was very impressed with the nut butter spreads by Once Again: Almond, Cashew, Sunflower, and Peanut Butter. I was given the opportunity to try each flavor in exchange for my honest feedback. Naturally I jumped at the opportunity because I have a picky little eater at home and I am picky about what he consumes. One of the few items on his menu is peanut butter. I couldn’t resist this packaging, I am always on the hunt for healthy versions of food for my little picky eater and this one hits the spot. I received my package from Once Again, and carefully examined the organic nut butter spreads. I was delighted by the ingredients and lack of the bad fillers!

IMG_7346

The first thing that caught my eye was the adorable raccoon as their mascot, I had to think what in the world do raccoons have to do with this company. The curiosity inside me drove me to their website, I was on a mission to find out what the raccoon represented and I am so glad I did.
The raccoons were orphans that grew up in the factory. Instead of the Once Again family getting rid of the little ones they adopted them and basically took care of them until they were ready to be released in to the forest. I thought that was a beautiful story, considering all the stories you hear lately, about animals with unfortunate outcomes. This may be why most of their products are Vegan as well!
This intrigued me to do more research about the company, just look at their Mission Statement:

Mission Statement
Once Again is a democratically operated employee-owned workplace. We pride ourselves in providing the health-conscious consumers with products of superior quality and integrity. Located in a small rural community, we are dedicated to supporting organic and sustainable farming practices. We are proud to offer a healthier alternative, where every customer matters.
Membership
National Honey Bee Awareness Day
Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York
Domestic Fair Trade Association
Organic Trade Association
American Peanut Council
National Cooperative Business Association
National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO)
Private Label Manufacturers Association

Now this is the type of businesses worth supporting. Not only are their standards highly impressive but the fact that they take pride in their product makes it more valuable than currency.

Another key factor that was impressive is the company is employee owned. I think it is absolutely great to find companies that actually abide by their stated standards. I also really find employee owned businesses have a tendency to take more pride in their products. This is great news for the consumer.

*The employee-owners meet on a regular basis. All employee-owners have a vote on how the company is managed, and we govern ourselves. Each person gets one vote. Our company meetings are held to address the following: company policies, operational issues, and financial strategies. Committees are also formed to help resolve issues, which are subject to a final company vote (1 person = 1 vote). We have at least 3 employee-owners sitting on our Board of Directors.*

Overall the Product has a great back story and impressive accomplishments. Considering the nut butter spreads all have great selling points. All of the nut butters are natural, organic, and are non GMO verified. None of this seemed to effect the flavor, I found it to be very tasty with a balance peanut flavored. The only thing I think might be a problem for some recipes is the consistency, it is bit looser than preferred/recommended. I would still consider it better than average for the taste and freshness. Another great feature on the site is the extensive ideas/recipes to use the nut spreads in. There are several recipes for ideas on how to incorporate nut butter Spreads into your everyday lifestyle, so I would definitely recommend checking out the website.

IMG_7386My favorite recipe so far is the Coconut Cashew Chicken Satays: My husband’s palette was very pleased so making this a recipe a keeper.

IMG_7387

I also experimented with a smoothie recipe Superfood Green Smoothie. I didn’t have all the ingredients but it still came out yummy, especially since I’ve been obsessed with avocados.

IMG_3493

I haven’t had much luck with my little one exploring with the recipes but I did have luck with him trying different sandwiches over his boring peanut butter request.

Of course he hasn’t met a dessert he didn’t like.  I was able to use a recipe from a friend to try and my household was very impressed.

raccoon

So run over to their website, look around, maybe pick out a recipe or 4 and pick up some nut butters! You cannot go wrong with any of them! Happy Eating!

I did a lot of research and found Revell made some affordable Star Wars Kits.  At first I was discouraged by the age recommendation.  I decided to purchase it anyways with the intent of helping my son build the kits.  I am so glad I purchased the Kit. Why I believe Pediped Footwear is a Smart Choice for Parents

IMG_7639Being a mommy of a growing boy, you can just imagine the things you have to replace. Some more often then you would like, Its insane how you can just wish your kid would just stop growing. One realization kicks in its Pretty evident your little one isn’t so little. IMG_7665
Since we can’t stop time and put a pause on our little ones from growing so . But at least we can invest in a brand that offers us an opportunity in a pair of shoes that won’t send us running back to the store before your little ones get some good use out of there brand new shoes.

IMG_7460 You might be asking How is this possible? You may be wondering why would a brand make shoes that is actually a half size bigger? Boy do I have the answer for you. Have you ever heard of PediPed? Have you ever been to Town Square on Las Vegas Blvd?
IMG_7673My growing boy had the opportunity to test out a pair of flex Pediped shoes (For Honest Review). Which I never heard of before. Upon exploring there website they had a very good selection with different features that would fit your childs need and moms need to have her kid’s shoe fashionable. I was literally impressed with the variety of shoes available. I honestly alway thought Pediped’s were designed for infants.

20121214_175944

My son was gifted a pair when he first started walking. They were the best, the material was durable, and it was designed perfectly for my little ones feet. Not once did I see him struggling with these shoes on. I was pretty bummed when he out grew them. Once he outgrew the infant shoe I started purchasing him shoes from various stores that had great deals.

IMG_7615But now that my little one is growing and he’s becoming more active in school and sports. I was on the search to find shoes that I could invest in and accommodate my sons needs without breaking the bank every time. So I started doing my research online and asking other moms for recommendations. After receiving his shoes I went on the the website to learn more about the shoe and brand. So you might be asking yourself, Why Pediped? Here are a few reason to consider the brand. The details are well explained which can leave you asking Why not Pediped.

Why Choose Pediped?

*pediped® footwear is a smart choice for parents concerned with the long-term development of their children’s feet. pediped has been awarded the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance for creating shoes that promote healthy foot development.*
Look at all the amazing Features offered:

Technology

The Flex Fit System™ provides additional insoles that can be inserted for a snug fit then removed for room as your child’s foot grows. These insoles can reduce shoe size by almost half a size, extending the life of the shoe.

USE AND CARE
SUEDE
To clean: A suede eraser can be used to remove marks and is available at shoe stores, mass merchandisers, pharmacies, and online at www.kiwicare.com. To use, rub the eraser back and forth over the discolored area until the marks disappear.
To protect: Spray a non-toxic waterproof protectant onto NEW shoes to extend the life of the shoes and make them easier to clean.
NUBUCK
To clean: Due to the soft, velvety nature of nubuck, marks or color transfers may occur. Fortunately, if marks or color transfers do occur, they are easily removed with a suede or nubuck eraser. Simply rub the eraser back and forth over the discolored area until the marks disappear. Suede or nubuck erasers are available at shoe stores, mass merchandisers and pharmacies. They are also available online at www.kiwicare.com.
To protect: Spray your NEW shoes with a non-toxic waterproof protectant. This simple spray-on process will extend the life of your shoes and make them easier to clean.

I would definitely recommend keeping an eye out for their new arrivals for summer.

What’s in a name? The 2017 Mazda CX-3 Grand Touring is in a class called compact crossover or compact SUV. I know, Wait a minute! SUV by definition is a big, gas guzzler, right?! Compact SUV is a bit of an oxymoron, wouldn’t you say? SUV stands for Sports Utility Vehicle. I have to attest – This is a sporty little compact vehicle, for sure! ‘Utility Vehicle’ – Now that’s where I get a bit hung up on terminology. I immediately think Compact means tiny, no room, can’t do much but get from point A to point B. I am not a fan of a small car unless it’s a sexy two-seater roadster car that I just want to put the top down and take on long drives up the coast. But that sexy fantasy is not a day to day commuter vehicle. Why? That’s easy: no backseat for my buddy’s car seat, not cost efficient to require higher octane fuel, I wouldn’t want my buddy to make the sexy, expensive car dirty or for me to waste my energy worrying about dings on the door, etc. Kids can be messy. (Though another of our moms has taught her kids to remove their shoes before getting in there vehicle!). How about a compromise: a smaller vehicle with a cool, sporty style 4-door that is easy to maneuver, is fuel efficient, can parallel park just about anywhere, has plenty trunk space, room in the back seat for a car seat (or 2!) and saves me money with great gas mileage – Enter the Mazda CX-3 Grand Touring

I reviewed the Mazda CX-9 Signature AWD and remarked that it was the coolest thing to have a third row of seating. Well, as awesome as that is, I really didn’t use the 3rd row! It was just nice to have additional seating without being a full on minivan. Although considerably smaller, the Mazda CX-3 Grand Touring is actually a really great ride. It is just the right size for me and my copilot, JJ. (But maybe I need to compare them to the CX-5!)

The first thing I did was sync up my phone using Bluetooth which is so simple: I maybe pressed 5 buttons between the dash tablet & my phone. I love satellite radio and GPS navigation. The mounted dash display is gorgeous, simple to operate and easily accessible. I love that there so many memory spots for the radio too so I can easily switch between stand up comics, Coffee House acoustic guitar and 80s/90s music. I didn’t look into it, but I hear updating navigation for some vehicles can be pricey. In that case, I’d rather use my phone app. It is an awesome app if it is updated and having the navigation projected above the dash means I am not taking my eyes off the road. Safety first!

I was secured my son’s car seat into the center of the back seat since there are anchors for a car seat to go on either seat. From the driver’s seat, I can easily hand him his water bottle or snacks once he is safely buckled into the harness or to threaten him with discipline since he is in arm’s reach. One caveat if you have a passenger in the back seat: There really isn’t enough room for a medium sized human to sit comfortably on either side. You would need to choose a side for the car seat and a side for the other passenger. The car seat would need to also be on one side rather than in the middle if you plan on folding either seat down. The front seat provides plenty of room and would likely be the best place to put a taller passenger. Upon delivery, I had to adjust my seat a considerable amount because I felt super short in the car, despite how compact it is! The driver who dropped it off must have been a lot taller than me (which isn’t saying much because I’m 5’2″!), but Wow – that’s a wide range of adjustment available!
As a mom, one of the biggest concerns for most families is safety. Since it’s a smaller vehicle, of course, it makes us big, tall SUV drivers feel a bit vulnerable. Well, Mazda hit it out of the park with 5 star crash ratings for both front and side impacts for the 2017 Mazda CX-3. The rating for a rollover crash was four stars: https://www.edmunds.com/car-news/2017-mazda-cx-3-earns-five-star-safety-rating-from-federal-government.html With all the safety features like sensors to notify you of cross traffic, rear cameras as well as (a safety package that includes) Smart City Brakes and lane change clearance, a lot of collisions can be avoided. Everyone can also exercise more caution when driving (this town can be very dangerous).
Aside from the many features of the Mazda CX-3 Grand Touring, what makes you decide to actually purchase a vehicle?! Are their deal breakers or must-haves that you have in mind to limit your search? I never realized how many options are out there… One friend who is also a part of the DriveShop program has her basic features that she appreciates: seat adjustment memory so she and her husband can switch drivers at the push of a button. Since I’m the only driver right now, this isn’t a necessity for our family. I honestly don’t even think about it! Although, when I valet or get the car washed, it’s nice to go back to my exact seat adjustments! What scores big points for me is the safety ratings/features, the fuel efficiency, its resale value or the longevity of a car. I do care about curb appeal, having a the sun roof/moon roof, and what colors it comes in, but those are secondary thoughts. Having volume controls and tuning right at your finger tips is also very helpful. There are multiple cup holders which is nice, but 2 tall to go cups with straws in them do not sit well under the armrest in the front. There is no vents in the center like other test drives we have had, but the center air vent is strong enough to cool or warm my son in his car seat. I can just angle the vent on the left side of the steering wheel if I need more air flow. There is so much bang for your buck when it comes to the Mazda CX-3 Grand Touring. The fact that they are also priced at almost half of the price of the CX-9 is a bonus too (depending on the options selected, of course). Happy car shopping! Let me know what your must-have features are when you are deciding which vehicle to buy. Are their any deal breakers for you?!

Big Thanks to Mazda for the opportunity to test drive their beautiful vehicles and massive gratitude to DriveShop for the opportunity to be a part of the program! I am really opening my eyes to many brands and so many different models that I did not expect to enjoy driving. I appreciate the subtle differences and yet it makes me realize what is most important! I hope you enjoy what I have presented and I am eager to hear your feedback!

National Geographic Kids Leveled Readers

Animals, Animals, Animals…

That is what I generally think about when I hear the phrase National Geographic, especially when I am channel surfing and I stumble upon the TV Station, which is always a hit at our house.

We love watching documentaries and learning about new things. My son’s favorite documentary, so far, is the king of the jungle! That’s right, Lions! Sometimes the stories are a bit sad but it helps teach the valuable lesson of the wild life.  Now our household is aware of the TV station, but the website was overlooked! Thanks to Moms Meet we had the opportunity to receive a package to review from National Geographic Kids.

The books are phenomenal, the package included Pre-Reader to Fluent Reader, which is a great option for my pre-reader to enjoy. He loves his books and even brings it to Show and Tell so he can share with all of his friends. Every Tuesday my little one has Show and Tell with the Letters they’re focusing at school. He was super excited to show off his awesome new books.

The books weren’t the only thing that he was excited for, the website, designed for kids, and had his full attention. There was so much for him to do, see and play. It was easy for him to navigate even though he isn’t a fluent reader. I would definitely recommend paying the website a visit and registering your child.

Queen Bee Market Review & Local Vendor Meet and Greet

My mother, Katherine and Aunt Mary pleased with their purchases!
Conference Center of las Vegas

Conference Center of las Vegas

I come from a family who LOVES all things crafts and DIY. Whether it’s homemade soaps, handmade seasonal decor, DIY signs and home decor, we will buy it or make it and maybe even sell it! So when my Mom and Aunt found out that the Queen Bee Market was coming to the Las Vegas Conference Center, I was all sorts of giddy!

                                  IMG_501217264613_10154485767302799_121928182983941720_n

Walking into the Conference Center, we were immediately satisfied by all the eye candy. It was the perfect blend of modern, vintage and glam. Each Queen Bee facilitator was dressed in darling matching T-shirts and were there to greet you with a grab bag filled with handmade products and immaculate treats. And y’all, the booths! This was not your average craft fair where it almost feels like a community yard sale and the tables are covered by stained sheets. No, no. Each booth was its own 5th avenue merchandised storefront-just darling.

I was shocked to find out how many vendors were there from all over the West part of the states. I met talented women from Arizona, Utah, California and even Colorado and was nothing short of impressed by every single one of their creative and truly beautiful products. I wish I could have bought something from every booth. As much as I would love to talk about every single vendor and their products, this post is all about the amazingly talented Las Vegas local vendors and their stories.

Wanna meet them?

Posh Pilar

IMG_5015Meet Nastasia. Even though I don’t have little babies anymore, I could NOT walk past this booth without “oooing and awe-ing” at all the sweet things. Nastasia makes stylish nursing ponchos and baby accessories. I was desperate to turn back time and use one of these ponchos while nursing and carrying  my boys.  Nastasia and her husband have 3 daughters and are Vegas natives.

She designs everything from infinity dresses, retro skirts to girls dresses. I mean, this cactus dress? Are you kidding me? She and her husband have a beautiful 5 year old daughter, Wynter who models most of Staysi’s designs!

Just Charms & Pretty Things

IMG_5017Lacey Cowan’s pretty charms and things have been our favorite at every craft fair we’ve been to in the valley, so far. Her handmade treasures are incredible and there is something for everyone. Lacey is a mother of a strong little girl and is accompanied here by a very helpful husband (which I love to see.)

My Mom and Aunt absolutely LOVE Lisa and Roxanne’s easy to use go-to recipe’s and my family and I love to consume them! These fabulous friends have worked together to create some amazing recipes without any additional preservatives, MSG or stabilizers- they even offer some yummy Gluten free options!

Cultivate Floral+Paper Goods

IMG_5014Sara Lunn is a sweet soul. I spoke with her for about half a minute and knew she was as sweet as southern tea. Her Bouquets were stunning enough for a wedding event yet simple enough for a dining room table. Her paper goods are equally wonderful. You can find her next at West Elm for her Pop-up Shop on April 1st. Sara and her husband have a one year old daughter. Give it up for this talented and ambitious Momma!

BBFrosch

IMG_5023Kristin from BBFrosch is the reason Queen Bee Market came to Vegas from their prime location in San Diego. We couldn’t be more thankful for that! Kristin is the owner and developer of BBFrosch Chalk Paint Powder. Her painstaking journey through what it took to create an easy to use paint powder is why so many are flocking to her Workshops in 12 states! You can purchase the chalk paint powder as well as other products on the BBFrosch website. You can also attend one of the workshops to learn how to do it yourself!

I cannot wait to see all these vendors again at the next Queen Bee Market event! Will you be there too?

Your welcome, Queen Bee!! Please come back soon!
