Disney’s Pixar New Movie Coco Review…

The new Disney Pixar Film hits Theater November 22, 2017

LasVegasMomsBlog had the pleasure of viewing an advance screening of the new Disney Pixar Movie Coco. Pixar took us on an exciting adventure into the world of the Latino Culture- festive holiday

coco-vr

celebrated in Mexico,- Dia De Los Muertos (to honor the dead). Which teaches us the importance of the Mexican Culture. Viewers will learn about the history and all the customs and rituals involved.

Coco:
Starts by introducing a little boy name Miguel Rivera, a 12-year-old Mexican boy who dreams of becoming a famous Troubadour like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. A guitar hero and movie star (inspired by Pedro Infante and Jorge Negrete). Miguel’s close-knit family who strongly disapproves of music, which Miguel has a hard time accepting and choose to go against his families beliefs and acts out of rebellion on the Day of the Dead.

Which begins his journey into the land of the dead, where he encounters his idol, Hector, and his ancestors where his family secrets will be revealed and his magical journey begins.

I thought the story line was brilliant and the illustrations, phenomenal. I enjoyed watching the Latino Culture unraveling onscreen giving the younger audience a glimpse of The Mexican culture in a very unique way. My favorite part of the film was the message it teaches young children “Value Family” – Miguel’s love and respect for his family showed us the value of family even if you don’t always agree with them. But most importantly he teaches children to respect his Elders at all times. There was definitely a lot more beautiful parts of the film that I won’t disclose. I do not want to give away to much of the film.

I hope you enjoy the film as much as we did. I must warn you (Don’t worry its not a Spoil Alert) Don’t forget your Tissue! You are gonna need it, I was definitely caught by surprise as the tears rolled down my cheeks.

Overall, Coco will definitely win your hearts, its a Spectacular Family Flick that has a lot of Lovable characters, memorable scenes and beautiful music.  Plus, the kids might learn some new Spanish words by the end of the film.

I have enclosed a couple of Awesome Coco Crafts for the kids.

This year, Wet n Wild hosted their first Halloweenville. Set to be an annual event, Halloweenville features dry slides, bounce houses, all of the cabanas decorated with creepy scenes, a dance party, rides, face painting and seasonal food! The admission price includes unlimited rides ($12 per person, under 2 years = Free!) Also, from 10/27-10/31 you can choose to add on the Trick or Treat option for an additional $5. The concession stand is open and there is also a hot chocolate/shave ice tent near paintball. The paintball shooting gallery starts at $10 for 100 paintballs.  For face painting, I believe tips are accepted! I have a 5 yr old & we went with another of his Halloween-loving 5 yr old friends.  They spent almost all of the time at the bounce houses. There is a mini train that was cute & fun for younger kids (adults fit on this ride too). The dry slides would’ve been fun to try, but since I had my son & he’s too little to ride those, I skipped them. I would think the older kids would enjoy those slides for sure. I know this time of year there are so many options and I have not been to the pumpkin patch on Rainbow at Warm Springs because there looks like there are more carnival rides for adults and teens that would be too much for my son. I really enjoyed Halloweenville for their content and price point. There seemed to be a lot to keep older siblings content too. I figure IMAX movies are about $12-13 and that’s only a couple of hours! At Halloweenville, your admission is for 6-9p, until 10p on weekends and from the 27th – 31st, they will be trick or treating available for an additional $5. Not bad! I like that it is an enclosed space. They have dance parties too! The decorations and Halloween music were the right touch too! The green screen photo offering is $10 per print, but you get to choose which pose you want.

In comparing Halloweenville to the pumpkin patches around town, I felt like it was the best fit for a solid pumpkin patch evening. Halloween Town at Boca Park has the option to buy individual tickets for each ride or an unlimited rides wristband for $20. It depends on your kids because the rides are definitely for really small kids so my son may be on the verge of out-growing those. The slides however are too high for him. He tried both & didn’t want to go on either a 2nd time. He loved the bounce houses & when we were there (on a Wed) he was by himself. I basically ended up spending about $2 for each attraction. They have carnival games which are a separate fee and a food tent that smelled beyond delicious wafting to you anywhere on the lot! They have a haunted house, but I am not a fan of being frightened and my son is still too young for that. We have been to two Stu Miller pumpkin patches (one next to Ikea & on at Blue Diamond/Rainbow) both require tickets. Slides are 1 ticket each, bounce house is 1 ticket for a set amount of time (I want to say 15 min) & the obstacle course/bouncy slide is 2 tickets which takes a bit longer to go through and it was JJ’s favorite, by far. Tickets are $1 each. So price-wise, basically the same thing. I do like that we could just pop in there at anytime, take pictures at the scarecrow and hay displays and maybe do a ride or 2 and tickets do not expire all month, so I am not knocking those at all. HallOVeen at Opportunity Village is a local staple with lots of rides and the decorations to enjoy despite some longer lines. Admission can be a bit steeper at around $20 for unlimited rides, but there’s also an option to buy admission only with option to purchase ride tickets separately, but every dollar spent there goes to a good cause. Cannot go wrong with any of these seasonal adventures!

Found a Diamond in the Desert!!!

We recently had the pleasure of dealing with Blue Diamond Air Solutions when we realized our HVAC air filters were in need of replacement.

From the moment they arrived they were very kind and professional.  They worked quickly to pull the old, dirty filters out, clean the cover, degrease the air intake vent and finally place the new filters.  I was surprised at how instant and noticeable the increased airflow through each vent was.  They also explained the many benefits of keeping a clean filter, including much cleaner air to breathe and reduction in energy costs due to higher efficiency of the increased airflow.  Being the mother of a child with allergies, the cleaner air is a HUGE benefit and a relief to me.  Our son even got a kick out of the installation, saying it looked like we had a ghostbuster in our house!

"Who you gonna call?"

“Who you gonna call?”

They recommend changing the filters quarterly or if there are pets in the home, bi-monthly.  The overall cost for us would only be $30 each time! ($5 per filter and a $20 service fee).  BDAS has been in business for a little over six months but they were very knowledgeable and were able to answer any questions I had for them.  I would highly recommend them to anyone I know. Queen Bee Market Review & Local Vendor Meet and Greet

My mother, Katherine and Aunt Mary pleased with their purchases!
Conference Center of las Vegas

Conference Center of las Vegas

I come from a family who LOVES all things crafts and DIY. Whether it’s homemade soaps, handmade seasonal decor, DIY signs and home decor, we will buy it or make it and maybe even sell it! So when my Mom and Aunt found out that the Queen Bee Market was coming to the Las Vegas Conference Center, I was all sorts of giddy!

                                  IMG_501217264613_10154485767302799_121928182983941720_n

Walking into the Conference Center, we were immediately satisfied by all the eye candy. It was the perfect blend of modern, vintage and glam. Each Queen Bee facilitator was dressed in darling matching T-shirts and were there to greet you with a grab bag filled with handmade products and immaculate treats. And y’all, the booths! This was not your average craft fair where it almost feels like a community yard sale and the tables are covered by stained sheets. No, no. Each booth was its own 5th avenue merchandised storefront-just darling.

Goodie Bags

The coveted Grab Bag. Sadly, we were one woman away from receiving one.- Photo from Queen Bee Market Facebook page

I was shocked to find out how many vendors were there from all over the West part of the states. I met talented women from Arizona, Utah, California and even Colorado and was nothing short of impressed by every single one of their creative and truly beautiful products. I wish I could have bought something from every booth. As much as I would love to talk about every single vendor and their products, this post is all about the amazingly talented Las Vegas local vendors and their stories.

Wanna meet them?

Posh Pilar

IMG_5015Meet Nastasia. Even though I don’t have little babies anymore, I could NOT walk past this booth without “oooing and awe-ing” at all the sweet things. Nastasia makes stylish nursing ponchos and baby accessories. I was desperate to turn back time and use one of these ponchos while nursing and carrying  my boys.  Nastasia and her husband have 3 daughters and are Vegas natives.

Staysi Lee Bridal Boutique

She designs everything from infinity dresses, retro skirts to girls dresses. I mean, this cactus dress? Are you kidding me? She and her husband have a beautiful 5 year old daughter, Wynter who models most of Staysi’s designs!

Just Charms & Pretty Things

IMG_5017Lacey Cowan’s pretty charms and things have been our favorite at every craft fair we’ve been to in the valley, so far. Her handmade treasures are incredible and there is something for everyone. Lacey is a mother of a strong little girl and is accompanied here by a very helpful husband (which I love to see.)

My Mom and Aunt absolutely LOVE Lisa and Roxanne’s easy to use go-to recipe’s and my family and I love to consume them! These fabulous friends have worked together to create some amazing recipes without any additional preservatives, MSG or stabilizers- they even offer some yummy Gluten free options!

Cultivate Floral+Paper Goods

IMG_5014Sara Lunn is a sweet soul. I spoke with her for about half a minute and knew she was as sweet as southern tea. Her Bouquets were stunning enough for a wedding event yet simple enough for a dining room table. Her paper goods are equally wonderful. You can find her next at West Elm for her Pop-up Shop on April 1st. Sara and her husband have a one year old daughter. Give it up for this talented and ambitious Momma!

I cannot wait to see all these vendors again at the next Queen Bee Market event! Will you be there too?

Bottiglia at Green Valley Ranch

Fitting that Bottiglia ( pronounced boh-TEE-yah) means “bottle” because even if you don’t go for the food you will want to be there for the drinks. Styled as a European yup-scale 1960s farmhouse chic restaurant it’s the perfect blend of retro elegance and modern touches. I could not help but imagine Audrey Hepburn here; Breakfast at Tiffanys? Brunch at Bottiglia! Picture a gastro pub that has been white washed, studded with reclaimed wood furniture, pastel fabrics, geometric chrome accents and sporadic wicker whimsy. They must have designed their drinks according to their decor. YES, I want my bellini to match my plush peach seat and YES, I would love for you to make my white sangria smell like the bouquet on the back of my chair damnit! And YES, I want my Malbec to be inspired by my velvety fig colored booth. Pinks, peaches, plums, gold and robin-egg- blues? I’ll drink all of it please…….Oh and I’ll be waiting for my drinks on the wrap around terrace if you don’t mind, thank you. I know what you are thinking: this sounds all very…… feminine.

Don’t let the décor fool you though the fine dining side of things could impress the likes of Anthony Bourdaine. This IS a fancy Italian restaurant and they’ve got the Lobster Fra’ Diavolo to prove it. I think we can all agree, Italian cuisine is all about love and you can tell where Chef Patrick’s heart is: The sea…. The sea of love….. I want to tell you just how much… I love his Halibut….. Among other things. One word ANTIPASTA. Their mastery of wood-smoked eggplant spread is only surpassed by their straight up ownership of lemon ricotta stuffed zucchini blossoms. The tuna carpaccio blushes as deep as the beets in the roasted beet salad. The chopped salad is nothing short of an orgy of tart, tang and sweet kiss of green grapes. The eggplant parmesan? Miniature like a ballerina and just as ‘en pointe’ ( sul punto in Italian) If you want to get some romance get intimate with the appetizers. You’ll go home satisfied.

But let’s get back to that Halibut. You put a piece of fish in front of me and all of a sudden I look like  teenager that just had her first drink. I giggle, I wiggle and smile. Most sushi chefs think I’m flirting with them. Maybe I am and I don’t realize it, but if I am, it’s only because I’m part penguin. For that reason, the Pan Roasted Halibut spoke to me, even though I don’t speak Italian or even understand most Italian, that fish and I understood each other. It knew I would adore it no matter what. But the condiments and garnish excited me more than the fish by itself. The fish was laid on a bed of faro (thick fluffy grain) with a water color green butter sauce, dollops of carrot puree and then the peas (ohlordthepeas!) The peas were short spring inspired love poems, each a pleasurable burst inside my mouth whispering sweet nothings to the fish.

They didn’t have to bring anything else out. But they did and to be completely honest The Shrimp Puttanesca and the Lobster Fra’ Diavolo could have their way with me too. I KNOW I sound like a cheating foodie perv but if I could have a menage`a trois of fish shrimp and lobster in one sitting every time I dine at Bottiglia….. I WOULD. Both the shrimp and the lobster are equally spicy and beautiful. While sexy in name, puttanesca, meaning whore’s pasta, in Italian has become slang for “a bunch of sh*t in the cupboard goes in the pasta”. Classically, you need the capers and olives to kick the ever loving crap out of you in order to make this dish a success, which is what made this my favorite of the pastas, because capers are my life. The creamy pink sauce on the lobster though was seriously indulgent. It was almost like a deconstructed lobster ravioli. But a warning: if you don’t like you food to look at you, request the face to be removed cause you get the entire lobster.

Dish after dish was placed and removed by what seemed like six different super models which made the dinner feel like a seduction. If I can’t be seduced in Italy then I’ll gladly take a little Italian seduction in Henderson. So…. while I’m in the mood, I’ll tease you with some dessert. I’ll give you some hints: one melts in your mouth and the other was filled with fun ….. I’ll leave the rest to your imagination… Bon Apetit!
