Struck Gold with Dr. Silver

I did it… I decided to get “work done” I accept that I am aging… Celebrating another birthday, I thought it was great time to consult a professional about options to help me to transition gracefully into my mid-40s.

I was gifted this procedure in exchange for my honest opinion. Please contact Plastic Surgery Associates 702-822-2100 to book your appointment with Dr. Silver today!

Enter Dr. Andrew Silver… You have heard us rave about Anson, Edwards & Higgins previously, and you know how well respected and admired this practice is… Dr. Silver is their newest addition and he’s wonderful. What do you look for in a plastic surgeon? Someone who is extremely knowledgeable and a perfectionist. You want your doctor to be personable, approachable and someone willing to be patient with you.  Getting work done on your face is a HUGE DEAL. Dr. Silver is extremely cautious and answers all of your concerns. I especially appreciate the fact that he is able to articulate what is happening with your face and give options for resolving those issues. He has a conservative approach and is extremely precise. He also can gently steer you in the right direction when your idea may achieve your desired results. I didn’t know what I needed or wanted, but I knew my face could use “something”…

For the past couple of years, I’ve received Botox for migraines which entails a protocol of more than 30 shots all over the scalp, along the hairline and the trapezius muscle. I am ineligible to receive any additional Botox in between those quarterly appointments.

I opted for fillers. Yes! I was a little nervous, but super excited. I had Dr. Silver face me towards the mirror and walk me thru what was possible. You can see he has true passion for his craft and it was very reassuring. I get the allure of going to a medispa and saving money, but we are talking about your face, your identity, the first point of contact – Please don’t trust just anyone with your beautiful face! That’s my PSA for the week! Share the knowledge, my friends… I have heard so many horror stories about Botox parties and fillers gone wrong. It is not worth the risk of damage. It could also potentially cost you a lot more both monetary and aesthetically should something go awry.

The fillers were very, very slight. I had a minor imbalance in my cheeks so Dr. Silver numbed my face a little and let that set for a few minutes. He drew on my face to mark out his proposed area to plump on each side. With the assistance of the lovely Ms. Stacie who rubbed the other cheek with an ice pod, he began his work. Just a few injections with a very thin needle in a handful of points along my cheek bone. It feels like a little pinch and not nearly as bad as I expected or anticipated. I was nervous about getting an injection in my soft cheek, but it was not bad at all! He evaluates his work from multiple angles as perfectionists do and then performed injections in the other cheek. They wiped the marker off of my cheeks and said to check back in a couple of weeks. I asked if there were any adverse affects to look out for and was told I would have a pretty immediate reaction, if anything. I was told swelling would subside completely after two weeks, but may feel soreness and have tiny injection site bruising. I held ice pack pods on my face for about fifteen minutes afterwards to reduce the swelling. Ladies, I did this on my way to work! I did experience maybe one or two bruises that were so tiny, they could pass as freckles.

20171117_083122The results are beautiful! I’m a bit more plump in my cheeks because, let’s face it, as the years pass, the fat you actually want that gives you a more youthful appearance begins to dissipate… the fillers are a great way to fill out your face even when you have received Botox to smooth lines, there is only so much smoothing of wrinkles that you can have done. The face naturally loses that fullness much like my eye brows are not as full as they once were!

I have to tell you: the fillers did a lot for me, beyond the physical appearance… I received a professional evaluation and a proposed game plan before and after my decision to proceed with fillers. No one could tell I had anything done, but noticed I looked great! I ended up telling a lot of my friends, family and coworkers. They said they couldn’t tell, but just noticed I was doing something right. It actually made me feel more confident knowing I didn’t look hollowed out anymore! I am also more conscious of my resting B face – Ugh… so true that “your face will freeze like that!” Haha…

I am so overjoyed knowing there is a game plan despite the fact the years do not want to be kind, nor does gravity, but rather than defy the aging process, I can mature gracefully! I admit, I think I should have had even more plumping simply because I love how subtle and yet how effective it was. The fillers made a big difference for me.

Now through the end of 2017, Dr. Silver is offering 20% off his services to all our followers. Please tell him we sent you and enjoy the new you. No one deserves beauty and the gift of time on your side than YOU! Happy Holidays!!!

Tell me, I want to know:

  • Are you aging gracefully?
  • What do you do to help this goal?
  • If you could get any work done, what would it be?
  • What questions do you have questions for Dr. Silver?

Gift Guide and Bucket List of Our Favorite Holiday Things

Tis the season…We put together a list of our favorite places, products and services from stocking stuffers to bucket list events around town. Happy Shopping and Socializing, mamas!

Gifts for your #1 mom (Yes, YOU!)

Vent Salon also has 2 locations also: Downtown Summerlin and Henderson 3 blowouts per month runs about $55/month. Look Style Society has 2 locations in the Valley – Tivoli Village and Town Square. They offer unlimited blowouts for $99/month and unlimited makeup application for $99/month!

For furry babies: Barking Dogs on Blue Diamond has a great selection of treats and toys to reward your pets after you have them groomed or just do the self wash option. I love the friendly, resourceful staff here and the products are top notch.

I have worn the same lipstick for probably the entire time I’ve lived in Las Vegas (since 2003!) It’s called Stay Currant and it’s a Revlon Colorstay lip stain. I know, the drug store under $10 choice for the win! I’ve tried other brands, other shades, but this is my absolute go to – fancy or casual, day or night, summer or winter. I love this deep red and the fact that it lasts all day & even into some mornings – Lol! Just remember to pick up Neutrogena make up remover too (or the Up & Up Target brand works just as well for half the price) or the fancy Bifacil by Lancôme. They all take off lip stains with minimal effort.

Tervis cups are my new jam. They have been around forever, are super sturdy and incredibly stylish. I love drinking just about everything out of them! There is a Tervis store at PH’s Miracle Mile Shops, but they are also available at Macy’s and Bed, Bath & Beyond(home of the never expiring 20% off coupons!). You can rep your favorite sports teams or choose fun festive designs. With an active, bull-in-a-china-shop toddler you need to be ready for the next foul ball or rogue plane. We also have pets so cleaning up broken glass is too much of a risk!

Speaking of drinks… The good folks at Total Wine can help you find great wine and spirits to fit any occasion. They carry much, much more than simply wine! There is beer and cordials and hard alcohol as well as unique accessories and paraphernalia to make any wine connoisseur squeal.

Comfort food from Yardbird Southern is a cozy way to spend time connecting with your honey amidst the craziness of the holidays. When it’s cold out, rich foods are the way to go! We need to get our winter coats on – What else will we have to work off in the New Year?! Mandarin Oriental has a festive high tea as well. Start your new tradition today!

Brunch at Craft Kitchen, tea and multiple menu offerings at Truffles N Bacon, Filipino gastropub from Cutting Board & anything from Served LV and now at Americana… These are a handful of favorites around town for taking friends to share a unique experience that will give them something new to try or just make every day meals feel like a special occasion.

I love Hobby Lobby and Michaels for easy DIY kits from ornaments to toys, but the unique finds will be at Cost Plus World Market! Our elf even shops there!

There are 2 indoor playgrounds that we absolutely love (warning, sock zone!): Rockin Jump the trampoline gym is fantastic for the whole family so definitely head over when you have restless visitors in town. Super clean, open warehouse style, a stunt bag, dodge ball courts, a climbing tower, basketball hoops of varying heights, lockers and great music playing. For kids 10 years and younger, go to Kangamoo. You will not be disappointed! You could literally be there all day, they have a walking track, slides, swings, trampolines, a zip line, miles of crawl space, free massage chairs, free coffee, tea and water, a charging station and plenty of wifi.

Sharing experiences and quality time with loved ones is really what the holidays are all about. There are several notable seasonal events and attractions around town. You can never go wrong with Opportunity Village’s Magical Forest where there are so many local sponsors who are annual contributors. The trees are ever changing and can be a constant inspiration for your own home decorations. New to the Valley is Operation North Pole: an interactive experience with our favorite jolly couple! This includes photo opps, visiting the candy shoppe, the toy workshop, and one on one time with Mr. & Mrs. Claus! Make it a point to visit seasonal exhibits at Bellagio, Venetian and now The Park for festive gatherings and holiday decorations. Ice skating is always a fun family night too at Downtown Summerlin, Cosmopolitan and also The Park now too! There are also several homes decked out in Christmas Lights with synchronized music too! Hypnotist Marc Savard’s home on East Robindale is for sure a local favorite. The schedule for House on Robindale can be found on Facebook. If you want to stay in your car, try the Glittering Lights at the Speedway! They have Groupons and deals for bringing canned goods too.

Great shows to see anytime, but going to shows is more festive during the holidays: Terry Fator at Mirage, Jabbawockeez at MGM, and Absinthe at the theater in front of Ceasar’s (<–Absinthe is NOT for suitable for kids! …or anyone easily offended by vulgar language and suggestive content).

Halloween Tutu Tutorial

image8

Hello mamas and happy fall! I seriously love this time of year. The weather is finally starting to cool down and best of all…. Halloween is right around the corner! I mean what’s not to love? You get to carve pumpkins, dress up, and eat a bucket full of candy. Amazing. This Halloween is super special for me because we recently welcomed a beautiful baby girl to our family. My son has been talking nonstop about taking her trick-or-treating and finding her a costume. G decided that he and his daddy were going to be Power Rangers. As for me and baby E, he wanted us to be something else. Although I think I would have been an amazing Pink Ranger, I agreed. It ended up being an easy decision. Before baby E was born we bought her an adorable Minnie Mouse dress that I absolutely love. Who better to go with Minnie Mouse than her BFF Daisy Duck. image9I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a costume so I decided to make one. A quick Pinterest search later and I had a plan. The costume consists of a white tutu, a purple shirt, and a pink bow. I had the shirt and bought the bow and supplies for the tutu.

Here’s what you need:image2
Tulle (I used 3 spools)
Elastic band
Needle & thread
Scissors

First thing you need to do is measure the elastic. Make sure it’s snug around your waist.

When you have your elastic measured, simply sew it together.

Now onto the tulle. From what I gathered during my tutu making research, the average length for the skirt is between 10 to 12 inches. Now you can measure and cut the tulle one piece at a time, but who has time for that?image4

Here’s an easier way to do it:

First find a piece of cardboard and cut it double the length of your tutu. Since I wanted the length of my tutu to be around 12 inches long, the cardboard was cut 24 inches long.

Next, tightly wrap the tulle around the cardboard. Once you’re done, take your scissors and cut it on one end. Then, grab all your tulle, fold it in half, and cut it down the middle. Repeat with at least 2 more spools.

Now we are ready to start tying.

Take your elastic piece and put it around something sturdy. I used my dining room chair. Next take a piece of your tulle and fold it in half. This will be the length of your tutu.image6

Now take the tails of the tulle and pull them over the elastic and through the loop and gently tighten to form a knot. Repeat until your tutu is nice and full.

Remember the elastic will stretch so make sure you pack on the tulle. I ended up only needing three spools, but you really can use as much as you want. It will just make your tutu even fluffier.image7

I think this project could be done within a couple hours with no interruptions, but with an infant and a toddler it took me a couple days.

With all the supplies, plus a pink bow, the total cost of my costume was less than $10. Look for coupons and sales.

Here’s the final product. What do you think? My little sidekick is cute too.

Connecting with Family to Family Connections

45239_143737908992087_916307_n-2

45239_143737908992087_916307_n-2Hi Moms! Are you looking for something to do with your kids 0-5 years old?! Are you looking for helpful resources? I can’t count how many times I did Google searches, Facebook searches and meetup searches. I was always looking for activities or classes to take my son to. Since he’s an only child, I kept hearing my friends and family say, “You should make some mommy friends so your son can interact with other children.”12992072_1149997478366120_1446597005_n-2

When I first moved out here I didn’t need to worry so much about making friends with other moms. I was constantly traveling back and forth to CA to visit my friends and family so my son was okay. He was getting all kinds of human interaction. Or so I thought! After a while, the constant road trips started taking their toll. I was getting burned out driving constantly: Some family members that I visit moved a little farther away so visiting everyone became harder. Plus, I started to miss staying at my own house here in Nevada. Eventually I decided to give Nevada a chance to grow on me. I started to do my research looking for ideal places to take my son.20151013_112524

I found a lot of awesome places to go but they lacked social interaction for my son. I eventually enrolled him in an indoor play area. We were content for a couple of months, but I just didn’t see my son utilizing any of the equipment or lessons they were teaching. He also started to get bored and do his own thing by himself. I thought to myself, “Wow this an expensive hangout.” I also wasn’t making any friends there; All of the mommies there were either nannies or already split off into groups. None of them were inviting new members so I just kept to myself and played with my son. I decided to end my membership and try Rec Center Classes, which was great and they had a variety of classes available, but after a while the mommy and me classes were scarce.  12986587_1149997868366081_1934384035_o-2

Next, I tried to enroll my son in some independent classes and it never worked out: He had major separation anxiety and teachers didn’t want to waste the limited amount of time comforting him. Back to the computer it was and I did more research to find things to do. I am not sure how I stumbled upon Family to Family Connection, but boy was I happy I did. They have an awesome group of ladies working there who are so helpful and understanding. They are very patient with my son and the classession are great.

Please visit their website and check out their monthly calendar. You just may find the perfect for you too!

*** I was provided a vehicle to test drive for a week in exchange for my honest evaluation. These opinions are my own.***

So much to love about the Hyundai Elantra! Our family recently had the opportunity to test drive the 2017 Hyundai Elantra SE. We are currently in the market for a new vehicle and this is great car for daily use. This vehicle is not super fancy (as in no sunroof, manual seat adjustments, no heated seats etc.), but it is safe, comfortable and great drive! Our Elantra has cloth seats which sort of made me nervous with a four year old. I feel like leather seats are easier to clean, in the event of a spill, or dirty shoes stepping on them, but luckily, we had no problems with that! I also limited what he was allowed to have in the test drive vehicle as far as food and drinks and put a towel down on the seat where he gets in. His toddler car seat fit in comfortably, installed easily, but adding a second carseat or adding big/tall adults on both sides would be a snug fit back there. Not to say it would be impossible, just not ideal for a longer road trip. Luckily, we live in Las Vegas where everything is about twenty minutes away!

In addition to a ‘normal’ mode for driving, there is a sport option and an eco option. I did not have much opportunity to test out the sport mode since I use this vehicle for commuting to work, which is a thirty mile round trip at the most and run a few errands on some days. Being environmentally conscious, I ended up using the eco setting for most of the week. I wanted to know that the eco mode meant I would not have to sacrifice performance for reducing my carbon footprint. At present, I drive an SUV and I do my best to conserve mileage knowing how much gas I use and how that impacts our environment – it’s rather embarrassing if we are being honest. (This is why I recycle – I have to offset somewhere!) I prefer to allow plenty of time for my arrival, even allowing for additional time in the event that there is traffic or an accident I need to get around since I do not like to be rushed when I am driving. For just normal, day to day driving, the eco setting works perfectly. I feel good knowing that not only am I limiting emissions, but I get more miles per gallon making my wallet happy too! The Hyundai Elantra is better than the average new car with gas mileage with 37 miles per gallon on the freeway and 28 miles per gallon in the city. I had a good mix of both so that combines to an average of 32 miles per gallon. So that means, with a fourteen gallon tank, I can drive to work and back without filling up about fifteen times! Does that make you happy or what?!

The best part about this vehicle is America’s Best Warranty. You simply cannot beat Hyundai in this aspect. This is such an important feature as a busy mom who does not want to worry for several years about anything breaking to leave me stranded somewhere or figuring out how to pay for a big unexpected, but necessary expense. Their warranty is a standard feature!

  • Five years or 60 thousand miles for the New Vehicle Warranty
  • Ten years or 100 thousand miles for the Powertrain Warranty
  • Seven years (unlimited mileage) Anti-perforation Warranty
  • Five years (unlimited mileage) Roadside Assistance
***Limited warranties, see dealer for details***

For safety, the Elantra has ESM (electronic stability control), VSM (vehicle stability management) and ABS (anti-lock braking system) with brake assist. There is even a driver’s side knee airbag and curtain airbags. Just knowing they are there makes me feel secure. The back up camera is one of the best safety features especially in our neighborhood where kids play in the cul-de-sac and backing out of the driveway requires extra slow movement and complete awareness. It is also super helpful when exiting parking spaces in busy parking lots like at school and when shopping – Or if you just want to make sure you are properly centered in your parking space! I love using the Bluetooth feature for hands free calls and for my GPS from my phone also. Pairing with my phone is a breeze.

There is a compartment for my sunglasses for convenience and there are cup holders galore! There are two beside the shifter, two behind the front seat arm rest and one in each of the four doors – No room for thirst in the Elantra! The back seat does not have a dedicated center air vent, but the air flow from the front was plenty for my son. There are power windows, power locks, power side mirror adjustment and an a blind spot mirror inset on the driver’s side. The remote key unlocks all doors, the trunk and has an alarm too.

There a lot of standard features that made me happy to be in a new car. I love cruise control especially since I drove from St. Rose Parkway to Floyd Lamb Park after driving from Ikea first. One feature I would have liked to have is electronic seat adjustments, but that is a tiny detail (I do not valet that often and do not share driving with anyone right now.) The Elantra is equipped with options to sync Android Auto and Apple CarPlay so I was happy to see my Samsung was welcome! Ha! As you may have read in previous vehicle test drives, I love SiriusXM satellite radio! When I am commuting to work, I giggle so much listening to the comedy stations. Other drivers must think I am nuts seeing me laughing out loud with no one else in the car. Use the in-dash 7 inch touchscreen (which displays the reverse camera) or change stations and adjust the volume right from the steering wheel – super handy! There is a USB plug and an auxiliary port as well as two 12V outlets right in front of the shift controls in a small bay that can hold mints and your garage door opener and can also be closed when you exit the vehicle.

This model also comes with SHIFTRONIC although it is a 6-speed automatic transmission. SHIFTRONIC allows you to manually upshift and downshift without a clutch. There are even models with paddles on the steering wheel for shifting as well. Pretty cool, but I did not use that option. Mostly because I’m lazy, but I also did not think now would be a good time to try to learn it. I know how to drive a shift stick, but I would be looking for the clutch with this fancy new system and we live a pretty flat city…again, let’s hear it for ease and comfort! That’s right: Automatic!

The stereo sounds great with speakers everywhere (six of them!) and the center arm rest has deep storage too. You can play CDs or hook up an MP3 player or iPod. Let me tell you, there was not one friend who saw the Elantra that did not tell me they were huge fans! Even guys who are all about cars. I was surprised, I was impressed. It is a really good looking car! For a midsize car, I was expecting to feel really small since I am used to driving a much bigger vehicle, but this was not the case. I had to actually look it up to see what weight class it was to be certain. What a great drive…As you see it here, this model retails for about $19 thousand. I really enjoyed this test drive and I have a feeling when I buy a new car, my list of potentials will include the Hyundai Elantra! That warranty!!!
