What a perfect opportunity to take the family to see a show. It will certainly be an exciting, memorable experience.

Exposing your young one to the arts is beneficial in teaching your child about Creativity, Culture, Imagination, Communication and Patience.

I feel Performing arts will help teach children how to think creatively through Imagination. Creative skills are one of the most important skills that help teach children to be successful. It helps set the foundation for Children to learn how to communicate in a unique way through the art of music, acting, and dancing.

Bringing your little one to a theatre may be a challenging experience especially for the first time. But they will learn how to sit quietly, respect others, and pay attention in time.

Marvel Universe Live: A Must-See Show For All Superheroes

20170728_195746

My son has been a fan of Marvel since his first love at age 2: Spiderman. That was the first costume which he wore everywhere. I have since proudly watched him expand his fan kid portfolio and fill his costume closet with the likes of other heroes like Captain America, Iron Man, Ant Man and he will soon ‘unlock’ his buddy, Guardians of the Galaxy’s Star Lord and his most recent request has been for a Deadpool costume (***NOTE: I have seen the movie for Deadpool & it is NOT kid-friendly! JJ has already been informed that he is not to see that movie until he’s 18.) 20170728_195746He has also recently was introduced to Lego Marvel Superheroes, a type of role playing game that you can even play with 2 players. You go on missions to defeat villain bosses and unlock heroes and villains alike along the way. You are able to play as your favorite characters using all their unique skills to save citizens, earn cash and fun stuff like drive cars or pilot sky vehicles, solve puzzles, dance a funny dance while waiting to move and of course, saving Marvel creator, Stan Lee from his vast array of peril scenarios. You can even customize your favorites so Spidey can be equipped with a Capt. America shield or a mash up of Sabretooth with Iron Man’s mask. This game is hours and hours of fun and like when my son was obsessed with superhero coloring books, he learned the names and logos and attacks of his favorite superheroes and defenses of their nemeses. I knew Marvel Universe Live would be a great way to watch superheroes 20170728_190817come to life!

I bought tickets just a few days before through the direct website for the venue hosting: UNLV Tickets. In Las Vegas, with so many options for performances, sports and activities, it is hard to choose which to attend! I have to say I highly recommend this show to anyone with kids remotely interested in superheroes. There are several stories that lead up to the main event each featuring your favorite teams of Marvel heroes, namely The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. It is really hard to not find so much entertainment for kids of all ages with high flying aerialists, dirt bike demonstrations, fire dancers (think Polynesian poi ball spinners!), acrobatics, of course, the awesome superheroes in  their awesome uniforms! My soon to be Kindergarten aged kiddo recognized everyone he saw and was so excited watching them battle it out with those dastardly villains!20170728_201230

Doors open 1 hour before and knowing there would be lots of people parking, we arrived before the allotted time. As we made our way in, we were immediately greeted with all things Marvel! Cups, toys, posters, masks, you name it. We made our way past several tables on the way to our seats and decided on a cool noise-making blaster gun with the Marvel Universe Live logo and a sketch of a handful of Avengers on it. I thought about the money, knowing a lot can be inflated at events, but also, a lot of the items are exclusively available only at a show.

20170728_192212We didn’t know we got such great seats until we arrived. We asked the Events Staff to show us where our seats are and the kind man remarked, “Those are the best seats in the house! Enjoy!” Sure enough, we found out as we made our way down the stairs that we were seated in the front row! I couldn’t believe our luck! Sure, I bought the tickets for us, but in seeing the seating chart, I thought there would be several rows ahead of us all the way to the ground. For this specific show, the collapsible bleacher seats were pushed all the way back so that meant, front row for us! There were a lot of kids dressed up or wearing their favorite heroes garb and though I packed my son’s Ant Man costume, mask and gloves, he opted out since it was really hot out still. Even if you didn’t have or bring a costume, lots of people had fan shirts on or bought masks or shirts there. While we were seated, we bought cotton candy with a mask that J was able to pick out. He chose Spiderman – of course! FYI, cotton candy now costs $15/bag. O.M.G.

20170728_203738The show began promptly on time having generously provided a countdown of several minute intervals. The opening introduction showed Doctor Strange levitating toward the audience… Great visual effects with wiring and cables as well as just the right amount of pyrotechnics throughout the show made for a seamless transfer into the Marvel Universe… Actually, the presence of Doctor Strange made me curious and we were inspired to watch the movie later that night!

Without giving away the plot and outcome of the show, I have to say, it was a great performance that could be enjoyed by everyone in the family. With voice over technology you need not strain to hear or understand the characters. There were a lot of characteristic lines and mannerisms so you really got to see your favorite heroes in real life. The whole back drop is a massive changing screen that made the stage look even bigger and really set the scenes with ease. There is a brief intermission in between acts and the seat vendors make their way around again selling popcorn, cotton candy, lemonade, souvenirs, you name it! We managed to use the restrooms before hand with zero line, but maybe at intermission it was a different story. Even the lines to buy things were not very long given that there were tables and carts available every few steps. For parents and those over age 21, there was alcohol being served! I saw mostly beer stands, but I imagine they may have had wine options also. We were given a countdown to showtime once again and the next chapter began…

At the end, as they take their final vows, you are able to see so many characters lined up, facing the crowd, undoubtedly for photo opportunities. It was a really fun night and I hope you all get to take your superheroes in training to see this great show! Even exiting, traffic wasn’t bad at all. Tickets are reduced for children, full price for adults. This is a show experience your kids will talk about for months! I can’t believe my little managed to be engaged and seated for the whole show. The only 2 times he got a little antsy was waiting for the show to begin and for intermission to conclude!

Queen Bee Market Review & Local Vendor Meet and Greet

My mother, Katherine and Aunt Mary pleased with their purchases!
Conference Center of las Vegas

Conference Center of las Vegas

I come from a family who LOVES all things crafts and DIY. Whether it’s homemade soaps, handmade seasonal decor, DIY signs and home decor, we will buy it or make it and maybe even sell it! So when my Mom and Aunt found out that the Queen Bee Market was coming to the Las Vegas Conference Center, I was all sorts of giddy!

                                  IMG_501217264613_10154485767302799_121928182983941720_n

Walking into the Conference Center, we were immediately satisfied by all the eye candy. It was the perfect blend of modern, vintage and glam. Each Queen Bee facilitator was dressed in darling matching T-shirts and were there to greet you with a grab bag filled with handmade products and immaculate treats. And y’all, the booths! This was not your average craft fair where it almost feels like a community yard sale and the tables are covered by stained sheets. No, no. Each booth was its own 5th avenue merchandised storefront-just darling.

Goodie Bags

The coveted Grab Bag. Sadly, we were one woman away from receiving one.- Photo from Queen Bee Market Facebook page

I was shocked to find out how many vendors were there from all over the West part of the states. I met talented women from Arizona, Utah, California and even Colorado and was nothing short of impressed by every single one of their creative and truly beautiful products. I wish I could have bought something from every booth. As much as I would love to talk about every single vendor and their products, this post is all about the amazingly talented Las Vegas local vendors and their stories.

Wanna meet them?

Posh Pilar

IMG_5015Meet Nastasia. Even though I don’t have little babies anymore, I could NOT walk past this booth without “oooing and awe-ing” at all the sweet things. Nastasia makes stylish nursing ponchos and baby accessories. I was desperate to turn back time and use one of these ponchos while nursing and carrying  my boys.  Nastasia and her husband have 3 daughters and are Vegas natives.

Staysi Lee Bridal Boutique

17264296_1341327125924013_1233935571899720049_n This is Staysi Lee. She is everything right about Vegas. Her hair, her style and her beautiful designs all reflect beauty and fun. She designs everything from infinity dresses, retro skirts to girls dresses. I mean, this cactus dress? Are you kidding me? She and her husband have a beautiful 5 year old daughter, Wynter who models most of Staysi’s designs!

Just Charms & Pretty Things

IMG_5017Lacey Cowan’s pretty charms and things have been our favorite at every craft fair we’ve been to in the valley, so far. Her handmade treasures are incredible and there is something for everyone. Lacey is a mother of a strong little girl and is accompanied here by a very helpful husband (which I love to see.)

Whatcha’ Got Cookin’

My Mom and Aunt absolutely LOVE Lisa and Roxanne’s easy to use go-to recipe’s and my family and I love to consume them! These fabulous friends have worked together to create some amazing recipes without any additional preservatives, MSG or stabilizers- they even offer some yummy Gluten free options!

Cultivate Floral+Paper Goods

IMG_5014Sara Lunn is a sweet soul. I spoke with her for about half a minute and knew she was as sweet as southern tea. Her Bouquets were stunning enough for a wedding event yet simple enough for a dining room table. Her paper goods are equally wonderful. You can find her next at West Elm for her Pop-up Shop on April 1st. Sara and her husband have a one year old daughter. Give it up for this talented and ambitious Momma!

November Charm

270 E Horizon Dr #100 Henderson, NV 89015

I loved these matching mommas. Who loves chalk paint? Who loves renovations? Who loves home decor? Well these girls have it all and more! They are “Southern Nevadas plaster paint retailer” and they are PROUD of it. As they should be! Bravo, Ladies!

Ambers Umbrella

IMG_5021

7960 West Sahara Ave. 89117, Las Vegas, NV

Amber’s story is what Las Vegas Moms Blog is all about. Our mission is to encourage, support and inform local moms and this mom deserves all the reward for the journey she’s been on. Visit AmbersUmbrella to read more about her story and why Ambers Umbrella exists. Amber is a mother of 6 and she is here accompanied by her 14 year old daughter Joslyn, who is just a doll. Amber’s Market features repurposed furniture, home decor, salvaged pieces, accessories, jewelry, clothing, and party supplies. Her shop opens on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The next opening is Thursday, March 16th from 10-5pm. Or you can purchase products online any time at www.ambersumbrella.bigcartel.com

BBFrosch

IMG_5023Kristin from BBFrosch is the reason Queen Bee Market came to Vegas from their prime location in San Diego. We couldn’t be more thankful for that! Kristin is the owner and developer of BBFrosch Chalk Paint Powder. Her painstaking journey through what it took to create an easy to use paint powder is why so many are flocking to her Workshops in 12 states! You can purchase the chalk paint powder as well as other products on the BBFrosch website. You can also attend one of the workshops to learn how to do it yourself!

I cannot wait to see all these vendors again at the next Queen Bee Market event! Will you be there too?

Your welcome, Queen Bee!! Please come back soon!

Gift Guide and Bucket List of Our Favorite Holiday Things

Tis the season…We put together a list of our favorite places, products and services from stocking stuffers to bucket list events around town. Happy Shopping and Socializing, mamas!

Gifts for your #1 mom (Yes, YOU!)

Vent Salon also has 2 locations also: Downtown Summerlin and Henderson 3 blowouts per month runs about $55/month. Look Style Society has 2 locations in the Valley – Tivoli Village and Town Square. They offer unlimited blowouts for $99/month and unlimited makeup application for $99/month!

For furry babies: Barking Dogs on Blue Diamond has a great selection of treats and toys to reward your pets after you have them groomed or just do the self wash option. I love the friendly, resourceful staff here and the products are top notch.

I have worn the same lipstick for probably the entire time I’ve lived in Las Vegas (since 2003!) It’s called Stay Currant and it’s a Revlon Colorstay lip stain. I know, the drug store under $10 choice for the win! I’ve tried other brands, other shades, but this is my absolute go to – fancy or casual, day or night, summer or winter. I love this deep red and the fact that it lasts all day & even into some mornings – Lol! Just remember to pick up Neutrogena make up remover too (or the Up & Up Target brand works just as well for half the price) or the fancy Bifacil by Lancôme. They all take off lip stains with minimal effort.

Tervis cups are my new jam. They have been around forever, are super sturdy and incredibly stylish. I love drinking just about everything out of them! There is a Tervis store at PH’s Miracle Mile Shops, but they are also available at Macy’s and Bed, Bath & Beyond(home of the never expiring 20% off coupons!). You can rep your favorite sports teams or choose fun festive designs. With an active, bull-in-a-china-shop toddler you need to be ready for the next foul ball or rogue plane. We also have pets so cleaning up broken glass is too much of a risk!

Speaking of drinks… The good folks at Total Wine can help you find great wine and spirits to fit any occasion. They carry much, much more than simply wine! There is beer and cordials and hard alcohol as well as unique accessories and paraphernalia to make any wine connoisseur squeal.

Comfort food from Yardbird Southern is a cozy way to spend time connecting with your honey amidst the craziness of the holidays. When it’s cold out, rich foods are the way to go! We need to get our winter coats on – What else will we have to work off in the New Year?! Mandarin Oriental has a festive high tea as well. Start your new tradition today!

Brunch at Craft Kitchen, tea and multiple menu offerings at Truffles N Bacon, Filipino gastropub from Cutting Board & anything from Served LV and now at Americana… These are a handful of favorites around town for taking friends to share a unique experience that will give them something new to try or just make every day meals feel like a special occasion.

I love Hobby Lobby and Michaels for easy DIY kits from ornaments to toys, but the unique finds will be at Cost Plus World Market! Our elf even shops there!

There are 2 indoor playgrounds that we absolutely love (warning, sock zone!): Rockin Jump the trampoline gym is fantastic for the whole family so definitely head over when you have restless visitors in town. Super clean, open warehouse style, a stunt bag, dodge ball courts, a climbing tower, basketball hoops of varying heights, lockers and great music playing. For kids 10 years and younger, go to Kangamoo. You will not be disappointed! You could literally be there all day, they have a walking track, slides, swings, trampolines, a zip line, miles of crawl space, free massage chairs, free coffee, tea and water, a charging station and plenty of wifi.

Sharing experiences and quality time with loved ones is really what the holidays are all about. There are several notable seasonal events and attractions around town. You can never go wrong with Opportunity Village’s Magical Forest where there are so many local sponsors who are annual contributors. The trees are ever changing and can be a constant inspiration for your own home decorations. New to the Valley is Operation North Pole: an interactive experience with our favorite jolly couple! This includes photo opps, visiting the candy shoppe, the toy workshop, and one on one time with Mr. & Mrs. Claus! Make it a point to visit seasonal exhibits at Bellagio, Venetian and now The Park for festive gatherings and holiday decorations. Ice skating is always a fun family night too at Downtown Summerlin, Cosmopolitan and also The Park now too! There are also several homes decked out in Christmas Lights with synchronized music too! Hypnotist Marc Savard’s home on East Robindale is for sure a local favorite. The schedule for House on Robindale can be found on Facebook. If you want to stay in your car, try the Glittering Lights at the Speedway! They have Groupons and deals for bringing canned goods too.

Great shows to see anytime, but going to shows is more festive during the holidays: Terry Fator at Mirage, Jabbawockeez at MGM, and Absinthe at the theater in front of Ceasar’s (<–Absinthe is NOT for suitable for kids! …or anyone easily offended by vulgar language and suggestive content).

Family to Family Connection Offers Information and Community

Girl Playing With Building Blocks

Girl Playing With Building BlocksRaising young children can be an isolating experience. It is often difficult for families to find credible information about child development and parenting. Also, it can be challenging – particularly in a transient city like Las Vegas – for moms to create strong support networks. Family to Family Connection is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to families with children ages 0-5 years. Their mission statement: “Through parent education and community networking, Family to Family empowers and supports families to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their children.” With a full roster of classes, a resource library, and a lactation educator on staff, new parents have a place to learn about being even better parents. The resource library allows the checkout of books and DVDs featuring subjects such as parenting and child development. Family to Family teaches a full calendar of classes. Most are taught in English, but there are some Spanish language classes each month, too. Topics include music, nutrition, physical activity, crafts, and even infant massage. Check here for the most up-to-date offerings. (Full disclosure – I occasionally lead a class about having a healthy relationship with food.) Family to Family has also teamed up with Nevada Early Intervention Services to offer some classes addressing your child’s development. Beyond the formal programming, one of the biggest strengths of Family to Family Connection is that it provides a space for young families to connect with one another. Friendships develop among the families served. When my boys were babies, Family to Family Connection was a lifesaver! There weren’t many places where I could bring both children and still feel relaxed and comfortable. Family to Family was welcoming. I could actually talk to other moms (yay!) while my children played safely. My new-mom jitters calmed down as I learned from the classes, and I was eternally grateful for a place to escape cabin fever. Each spring, Family to Family Connection presents the fundraiser “Touch a Truck.” As the name indicates, children have the chance to see a large variety of vehicles up close. They get to climb into a fire truck, touch an Army jeep, and even chillax in a limousine (my kids’ favorite – and so quintessential Vegas).

~*GIVEAWAY*~Kindermusik With Miss Dedra

IMG_0572

Are you looking for a great way to socialize your toddler and connect with other moms at the same time? Do you want to see your little one engaged and attentive and LEARNING?! Kindermusik is the answer!!! I have the pleasure of coming to know Miss Dedra – a pure talent in the Kindermusik movement. She is truly gifted in the world of music as well as with kids! She has been teaching piano since the ripe old age of 14 and became a Licensed Kindermusik Educator a mere 3 years later enabling her to open her first music studio in Wisconsin. Talk about accomplished! She obtained a BA in Music with an emphasis in Piano Pedagogy so rest assured, you are in very capable hands! I walked into the studio, unsure of what to expect. I know my son is quite musical, showing interest in all instruments as noise-making is a big hit with most toddlers! J claps when people finish singing or dancing so I know he gets it. He is sweet enough to ask for “more” when I finish a made up lullaby for him while he nurses. I was so excited to see how he fared in our first Kindermusik class. There are normally 5-6 other children attending class with their moms and occasionally siblings are present as well. It is a bit intimidating to walk in not having met anyone beforehand. Lucky for me, I brought a couple of mom friends so it was not as nerve-wracking, but then there is always the fear J may not interact or maybe he is nearing nap time so he will be fussy. Let me tell you, the intimidation was completely in my head as these were the NICEST moms I’ve met in an infant/toddler class ever! I have taken J to countless mommy and me type classes since he was just a few months old and by far, I have never felt more welcomed than when I took him to Kindermusik class. We attended a Wiggle & Grow class (2-3yrs) and a Sing & Play class (0-24 months). The other moms were all very sweet, very supportive and surprisingly encouraging even when J didn’t want to follow along. He was interested as he always is, in other kids and his surroundings, but he was still a little shy. My friend’s daughter (2) was completely enthralled by every activity presented. She took to Kindermusik like a fish to water. It was an utter joy to watch her enjoy class.

All the kids are enamored with Miss Dedra as she remembers everyone’s name and focuses intently on you with a soothing, kind voice. She starts class by welcoming each child with a personalized movement of their own. It is a sweet and fun way to learn everyone’s name. Varying sounds and tempo are used and even cleaning up has musical accompaniment. There is a lot of dancing and use of studio space. The simple touch and feel of different instruments and unique sounds they create keeps little minds focused. Kids trying out different movements and wiggling about also encourages moms to get moving too! I enjoyed this since I love being silly with my son and expanding his movement repertoire. I want him to know that his little body can do amazing and magical things, so dancing is a great way to do this. Songs we sing are catchy and easy to learn so moms (and dads!) who worry about how sound will be happy to know that if you can sing Happy Birthday, you are in!
Signing up for classes also grants access to Kindermusik@Home for supportive media materials to download at home in between classes! Reinforcing lessons learned and using interactive methods with your little one will help familiarize you both the curriculum. I highly recommend attending classes regularly as this is the best way for your son and/or daughter to be comfortable more quickly and really get the most out of your time with Miss Dedra. Getting to know the other kids, the cadence of the class, the other moms and your teacher only lends to an enjoyable experience for everyone. It really makes a difference when J sees other kids he knows. He remembers other kids and his face lights up when I prepare for our day and ask him if he wants to play with specific friends. Our mission at Las Vegas Moms Blog is to connect moms to each other and I have to say, Kindermusik has my vote for the most welcoming moms on the block!
